MUSICAL ROOTSBRYAN ADAMS
Born in Kingston, Ontario but raised in Israel, England, Portugal, France and Austria due to the work duties of his father, a diplomat who served for the Canadian forces, Bryan Adams always kept his love of music close. He was taken to Vancouver by his mother at the age of 14 and was soon gigging in nightclubs with bands such as Shock and Sweeney Todd. At the age of 18 he sent a few of his demo recordings he had made with songwriter Jim Vallance to A&M records in Toronto and was quickly signed for a whopping $1.
Since signing his deal in August 1978, Adams has released 14 albums, selling millions and millions worldwide. He has won 18 Juno awards, Grammy awards in 1992 and 2008. He was inducted into Canada’s walk of fame in 1998 and more recently into Canada’s Music Hall of Fame in 2006. Adams has also received the Order Of Canada and the Order of British Columbia.
From the mid 1980’s to the mid 1990’s, Bryan Adams was the most successful rock singer in the world. Thanks largely to his blue-collar image - usually blue jeans, sneakers and a white T-shirt wich mirrored his straightforward rock n’ roll style and the hard-working values of his music. The partnership with Jim Vallance led to heart wrenching songs of love found, love lost and loneliness, all sung with his distinctive raspy voice.
With hits like “Lonely Nights”, “Cut Like A Knife”, “Run To You”, “Summer Of ‘69”, and “Everything I Do (I Do For You)” Bryan Adams quickly became a musical icon. He would tour extensively and continue to sell out large stadiums, gaining new fans everywhere. Many of his songs were featured in some of the biggest blockbuster movies of the 80’s & 90’s. He continues to score music for film and television to this day.
Not only know for his musical work, Bryan Adams works extensively on his humanitarian efforts, playing a major role at global concert events such as Live Aid, Rock For World Peace, Amnesty International, Nelson Mandela’s 70th birthday and the tearing down of the Berlin Wall. Where he has played alongside such musical greats as Sting, U2, Paul McCartney and Elton John. Bryan Adams is also and avid photographer. His works have been published for organizations such as the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and Canadian Cancer Society. His photos have been published in Vanity Fair, Esquire and Harper’s Bazaar among others.
